Me too! I'm a cake reader (but really more a cake fan), too. And since this all began with a love of cakes in childrens' books, here's an excerpt that speaks to children's love of cake and through it, my love of a certain large slice:
"Soon, they were all sitting down at the tea-table, glad to see a wonderful spread! Great slices of thickly buttered bread, homemade jam, homemade cheese, a fat ginger cake, a fruit cake, a dish of ripe plums, and even a home cooked ham if anyone wanted something more substantial."
--Five on Finniston Farm, Enid Blyton
And we don't need no stinking ham, because cake is certainly substantial enough for us.
Happy birthday.
